Istanbul Tulip Festival
The Birthplace of the Tulip: Istanbul
A spring journey through 30 million blooms.

Many associate tulips with the Netherlands, but the true history of this bloom begins in Turkey. During the 16th century, these "Lale" (as they are known in Turkish) were imported to Europe by traders of the Ottoman Empire.

Today, the city celebrates this heritage every April. This year, over 30 million bulbs were planted along streets, in front of public buildings, and in every major park.
The Famous Floral Carpet

A highlight of the festival: a 1,500 square yard geometric masterpiece made of 500,000 individual tulips.
